River–Groundwater Interaction and Recharge Effects on Microplastics Contamination of Groundwater in Confined Alluvial Aquifers

چکیده
Literature provides only a few examples of contamination groundwater with microplastics, mainly investigated using chemical approach. Little importance is given to the hydrogeological processes able affect contamination, such as river–groundwater interactions. This study was carried out two aims. The first aim formulation method high result-to-cost ratio, based on aspects area. Microplastics were extracted from samples through filtration and successively counted characterized morphologically analysis optical microscopy images. second evaluate presence microplastics in some portions an alluvial aquifer this methodology. showed higher circularity Feret diameter than those found surface waters, indicating that porous aquifers transport likely more influenced by microplastics’ shape their size. recharge did not modify characteristics groundwater, whereas water flood wave promoted resuspension lower circularity. These findings provide new pieces evidence both underlining how area can be one main drivers contamination.

Contamination and restoration of groundwater aquifers.
Humans are exposed to chemicals in contaminated groundwaters that are used as sources of drinking water. Chemicals contaminate groundwater resources as a result of waste disposal methods for toxic chemicals, overuse of agricultural chemicals, and leakage of chemicals into the subsurface from buried tanks used to hold fluid chemicals and fuels. In the process, both the solid portions of the subs...
متن کاملA comparison of recharge rates in aquifers of the United States based on groundwater-age data
An overview is presented of existing groundwater-age data and their implications for assessing rates and timescales of recharge in selected unconfined aquifer systems of the United States. Apparent age distributions in aquifers determined from chlorofluorocarbon, sulfur hexafluoride, tritium/helium-3, and radiocarbonmeasurements from 565 wells in 45 networks were used to calculate groundwater r...
متن کاملenvironmental effects of gol-e-gohar iron ore mine on groundwater of the area
gol-e-gohar iron ore mine of sirjan in southern part of iran is a large open pit that operates below the groundwater table and during mining operation, dewatering is required to prevent operation processes from flooding. current operation is going on by digging wells in or out of the pit and pumping to prevent flooding. as a result of the former dewatering operation a vast deep cone of depressi...
Case studies of groundwater – surface water interactions and scale relationships in small alluvial aquifers
An alluvial aquifer can be described as a groundwater system, generally unconfined, that is hosted in laterally discontinuous layers of gravel, sand, silt and clay, deposited by a river in a river channel, banks or flood plain. In semi-arid regions, streams that are associated with alluvial aquifers tend to vary from discharge water bodies in the dry season, to recharge water bodies during cert...
متن کاملon translation of politeness strategies in dialogues involving female characters in translations and retranslations of novels translated before and after the islamic revolution of iran and their effects on the image of women: a polysystem theory approach
abstract reception environment has considerable effects on accepting a translation. as the expectations of a target culture and its values and needs change throughout history, its criteria for accepting a translation or rejecting it will change accordingly (gentzler, 2001). the expectations of iran, as the reception environment in the present study, have changed after the islamic revolution. i...
